Campus and Singles Minister - Willie Franklin
Willie Franklin was born in Monroe, Louisiana on October 9, 1949. In 1959, Willie’s family moved to San Diego, California. He finished high school at Abraham Lincoln in San Diego, where he was an all C.I.F athlete in football (1968). From 1968-70, Willie went to Mesa Junior college in Arizona where he was an All-American Athlete in track and field two years in a row, second in state in wrestling, and an All-American in football (1970). Then he transferred to the University of Oklahoma to play football.
Willie walked on with the Baltimore Colts in the summer of 1971 and made the team. He then returned to the University of Oklahoma and finished his degree in Special Education. He was converted to Christ in 1973. He retired from pro football one year later and went to the Biblical Studies Program at Harding University (1975-77). While there, he was a part of the football coaching staff for one year, and finished the Biblical Studies Program in July of 1977.
Willie worked as the evangelist for the Clinton Church of Christ from 1977-79, then returned to Harding University as a Campus Minister from 1979-81. In 1981-83, he was a Bible teacher at Dallas Christian High School.
In 1983, he married Pam. In 1983-91, they lived in Lae, Papua New Guinea as missionaries. In 1991-95, they returned to America, and Willie worked with Avon Malone at the Wilshire Church of Christ. In 1995-99, he worked with the Leanna Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, along with four other supporting churches (Shelbyville Church of Christ, Cookeville Church of Christ, Centerville Church of Christ, Mount Juliet Church of Christ). In 1999-2004, he worked with the Highway E Church of Christ in Rolla, Missouri as the Campus & Pulpit Minister.
In 2004-2007, Willie has been working as Campus Minister at the University of North Texas and Texas Women University in Denton. In 2006, the Lewisville Church of Christ became his overseeing congregation involved with helping his work on the campuses. Willie is the College and Singles minister here, as well.
